This Yom Kippur we faced a moral reckoning. What has taken place over the last year is unimaginable. On Yom Kippur 57885/ October 12, 2024, over a thousand people gathered in-person (plus over 6,000 views via livestream) for Yizkor, a mass public ritual of remembrance, refusal, and recommitment.
Each life an entire universe, is remembered. We steadied and cared for one another, to persevere together. We recommited to a future of freedom and safety for all human beings, and to our urgent call for a permanent ceasefire and for the U.S. to stop arming Israel. This Yom Kippur, we embodied Judaism at its most loving and liberatory.
Yizkor was organized by: Rabbis for Ceasefire, Congregation Kolot Chayeinu/Voices of Our Lives, Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), IfNotNow, Jews for Racial & Economic Justice (JFREJ). Endorsed by: Reform Jews for Justice and Shoresh. With support from: Christians for a Free Palestine, local Muslim and South Asian community leaders, & the office of City Council Member Shahana Hanif.
